This Association was formed in 1996 by several NYNEX retirees who had one objective at the time: Get back the ad hoc pension increases which helped fight inflation. There had been no increases since 1991.
This group sent letters to Ivan Seidenberg who did not answer them. The retirees then organized several meetings around the NYNEX geography. They asked all who attended to sign a petition requesting Mr. Seidenberg to restore the previous regular (bi-annual) ad hoc pension increases. This founding group was totally shocked when Mr. Seidenberg did not give a response to this petition of NYNEX Retirees.
That very modest beginning has now become a 134,000 member organization which has had many significant accomplishments. We believe that with all retirees acting together we can achieve a COLA on our pension and, through congressional action, guarantee our healthcare benefits which have been chiseled away over the last 25 years.
